A new chilling two-part documentary about a missing girl has landed on Netflix, here's everything you need to know before you watch it...

Netflix has captivated its audiences over the years with many chilling documentaries and now the streaming platform has added a new one to its roster and fans of true crime are in for a treat.

The two-part documentary follows the real-life story of Cathy Terkanian, who received a letter in April 2010 that would change her life forever.

She was told that the daughter she had given up for adoption 35 years earlier had disappeared from her adoptive home back in 1989.

The documentary will show Cathy's plight as she enlists the help of an investigator as well as the local authorities in a ten-year search to find out what happened to her child.

It's been co-produced by none other than Charlize Theron, along with Jessica Hargrave, Matt Maher and Ryan White, who has also directed the film.

According to Ryan, Charlize set the ball rolling with the project after reading a report on the story in The Atavist by Niles Cappello and reached out to Ryan's team.

The Hollywood icon resonated with the story because she had adopted her own two daughters in 2012 and 2015.

Ryan told Tudum: "I remember in that conversation how incredibly passionate Charlize was she didn’t feel like a superstar when you were talking to her.

"She felt like an adoptive mother who felt passionately that this was the worst case scenario of what could happen with adoption."

Meanwhile, Charlize expressed to the publication: "Cathy was resilient and followed her intuition all the way to the end to get answers about her daughter.

"I think that sort of tenacity in the face of a bunch of people telling you you’re wrong is something that really resonates with audiences. We so often are taught to trust our gut, but rarely see it in action."

In the trailer, Cathy can be seen going through pictures of her daughter that she was sent and said: "Throughout my life, she was always on my mind.

"When I found out she went missing, I thought, 'I gotta find this kid alive, I don't care if I have to walk over God's green earth to do it.'"

Ahead of the show's release today (Thursday 12 September), fans shared their enthuisiasm in the comment section of the trailer on YouTube.

One person wrote: "Charlize Theron produced??? Okay I'm checking this one out." (sic)

While another Netflix subscriber penned: "This looks really interesting! I can't wait to check it out!"

Into The Fire: The Lost Daughter is available to watch on Netflix now.
