Fifteen years after Teen Mom’s Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra put their daughter Carly up for adoption, they learned her adoptive parents blocked them in an exclusive look at the Feb. 6 episode.

Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra have come to a harsh realization.

Fifteen years after the Teen Mom OG star placed her daughter Carly up for adoption, she and her husband have been facing ongoing troubles staying in contact with the 15-year-old’s adoptive parents—and more recently, they realized that they have been cut off completely.

In an exclusive sneak peek of the Feb. 6 episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, the mom of four read a text message from Teresa Davis—Carly’s adoptive mother—that said, “The way that you speak about us online was very hurtful, so we’re not gonna be responding.”

Catelynn went on to show her husband the countless updates and texts she had sent to Teresa, with no response in return. And when Tyler pointed out that some of them remained undelivered, they both came to an immediate realization.

“Well, if they don’t say delivered,” Catelynn said, “that means I’m blocked.”

But in a flashback to the initial adoption process, the clip reveals that Teresa had previously promised to allow Carly’s biological parents to send occasional updates and birthday gifts to their eldest daughter. So, the 32-year-old persisted with the hope that, “Carly can see I was continuously sending updates.”

Teresa, on the other hand, firmly expressed her discomfort in a message to Dawn Baker, their adoption counselor.

“We do not want them to send anything else to our house,” Teresa wrote. “It is so out of control and inappropriate.”

And to Catelynn and Tyler, this was just further confirmation that their previously open adoption has disappeared before their very eyes.

“They definitely have 100 percent closed the adoption,” Catelynn recently told E! News in an exclusive interview. “At the end of the day, Ty and I, we've asked her parents and continue to do so, ‘Is it Carly that's not wanting contact?’ Because, if it's Carly not wanting contact, it would hurt, but we would understand and say, ‘Hey, if you ever want to have it, we're here, and we totally understand that all of this could be hard for you.’”

“But then, on the other side,” she continued, “if it's just her parents acting out of fear, it's my duty as a birth mom to show this child that I'm continuously fighting for communication, because that's what's ultimately the best for her—if that's what she wants.”

Ultimately, Catelynn expressed that she only has one desire for the future of her relationship with Carly.

“I think my hope is whatever she wants,” she explained. “If she wants to have a relationship with us, awesome. If she doesn't, totally understand—whatever that looks like for her.”

Viewers watched Catelynn Lowell and now-husband Tyler Baltierra make the difficult choice to place their first daughter, Carly, for adoption, in 2009 on the inaugural season of 16 and Pregnant. After 13 years together, the fan-favorite couple wed in August 2015 and have since had three more daughters: Novalee, Vaeda and Rya.

While the absence of Carly—who lives with her adoptive parents, Brandon and Teresa Davis—still aches, the couple keep fighting for a future.

Their hope is their bond "is whatever she wants," Catelynn told E! News in January 2025.

"Whether she just wants a relationship with her biological siblings, if she wants to have a relationship with us, awesome. If she doesn't, totally understand. Whatever that looks like for her. Because it needs to be adoptee-centered."
